Leicester Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Helpline 0116 2550667

The helpline service operates from 7:30pm to 10.00pm every Tuesday and Thursday.

Specially trained volunteers are on hand to deal with all types of problems or requests for information. Whether you need the address of a local gay bar or the telephone number of a local group, information about national helplines or support around “coming out” or a relationship break up, give us a call. Helpline volunteers offer an open, non judgmental and affirming service which is open to everyone.

The helpline has an extensive database of local and national information. If a helpline volunteer cannot find you the information required when you call they will refer the request to the general office who will contact you as soon as possible with the information.

Helpline volunteers are trained to listen and empower you to find solutions to particular problems or scenarios. However, helpline volunteers do not offer counselling. If you think that you require counselling or therapy the helpline volunteer will attempt to refer you to an appropriate agency.

We are currently only able to operate the helpline on two evenings per week due to limited numbers of trained staff. Therefore, it is possible that you may find the line is engaged. If this happens please call back later in the evening. If you call outside of operating hours, please feel free to leave a voicemail message and contact number and a volunteer will call you back on Tuesday or Thursday evening. You can also email us helpline@llgbc.com and we will either email or call you back.

If you feel that you need urgent support outside of operating hours please contact the
London Lesbian & Gay Switchboard on 0207 837 7324

Confidentiality

All calls to the helpline are treated in the strictest confidence. We will only break this confidence if we feel that the information you are giving us indicates that you may be at risk of harming yourself or others, that it involves child abuse or the abuse of vulnerable adults, or it involves an act of terrorism. We will inform you if we feel that any information given may have to be disclosed.

Helpline Volunteers

The helpline is operated by a team of volunteers who are given training in telephone support skills and a range of issues related to sexuality. We are always looking for new volunteers who feel they have the required life skills and experience to contribute to the service. If you are interested in volunteering please email Dennis Bradley (Centre Support Officer) at dennis@llgbc.com or phone the Helpline on 0116 2550667.
