Aims & Objectives of Prism – the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Forum for Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland

Overall Aim

To improve the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people in Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland.

Specific Aims

• To increase the influence of the LGBT community on local policies and services.

• To improve local understanding of issues affecting LGBT people.

• To reduce institutionalised homophobia, transphobia and heterosexism within local organisations/service providers.

• To enable Leicester LGBT Centre to be accessible to the local LGBT community.

Objectives

• To set up, run and ensure long-term sustainability of a Forum of local lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people.

• To provide representation on local networks, partnerships and fora and on the Centre’s management committee.

• To produce and distribute information about improving life experiences for LGBT people.

• To develop practical action plans around the needs of LGBT people identified in recent research.

• To develop best-practice standards for local service provision to LGBT people.

• To provide specialist support and advice to local organisations around LGBT issues.

• To offer feedback on policies which impact on LGBT people.
