Why Form a LGBT Forum?

You are in: Home: Prism - LGBT Forum for Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland

Leicester Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Centre works to improve the lives of LGBT people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. An important part of this work is persuading local service providers to include the needs of LGBT people in their policies and procedures and providing them with the information and skills to do this.

We currently work with a wide range of organisations, including local and district councils, the police, the NHS, voluntary organisations and local businesses. We want to expand this work in the future and we want to ensure that we are properly representing the diverse LGBT community of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland in doing so. To do this we have secured funding from the National Lottery to set up a local Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgendered Forum.

Prism will enable LGBT people from across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to come together to tackle homophobia, transphobia and heterosexism. It will advise the Centre’s Policy and Development Officer’s work with local organisations and service providers and allow individuals with specialist knowledge to share their expertise. It will also help to identify local organisations which are properly addressing the needs of LGBT people and spread best practice between service providers, as well as highlighting organisations and service providers which are discriminating against or failing to provide adequate provisions for LGBT people.
