StampItOut!

Leicester LGBT Centre is a member of Stamp It Out and is working with the other partners to stamp out homophobic and transphobic abuse. But we need you help !

Three Things You Can Do To Stamp Out Queer-Bashing

  1. Report incidents - even if you are not the victim or you don't think a crime has been committed. All incidents are logged and allow us to build up a picture of what's taking place. Click here to go to the online reporting form. To report a hate crime directly to the Police, call 0116 2222222, or dial 999 in an emergency. You can also report incidents confidentially through the LGBT Centre by calling 0116 2547412.

  2. Raise awareness - the more we raise awareness of the hurt caused by homophobia and transphobia, the more likely we are to stop it. Talk about issues with friends, family and work colleagues. Encourage your workplace, school, college, place of worship, etc to display signs indicating zero tolerance of homophobic and transphobic abuse. Contact the LGBT Centre for posters and flyers or for tips on how to get involved with the Stamp It Out! campaign.

  3. Get involved - by working together we can make Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland a more LGBT-friendly place. Click here for information on joining Prism, the LGBT Forum for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

  4. Report It - go to the new STAMP IT OUT! WEBSITE - and report or find relevant information about Hate Crime etc.

Why Report?

A homophobic or transphobic hate incident is any situation where you or someone else has been targeted because they or you are believed to be different, or any incident you believe was motivated by sexual orientation or gender identity. Too often hate incidents go unreported. We want to change that. If you are aware of a homophobic or transphobic incident, whether or not you think it constitutes a crime, please report it. Reporting incidents allows us to build up a picture of where homophobia and transphobia is happening. Ultimately it persuades those in power that problems do exist and need to be challenged.

What Can I Report?
Any incident where you believe someone has been targeted because they are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered, or because someone else thinks that they are.

Any incident you know or believe were motivated by homophobia i.e graffiti, harassment by neighbours, bullying in school or verbal abuse.

You can also report domestic abuse, violence or aggression against someone by a family member, partner or ex-partner in an existing or previous relationship regardless of gender or sexuality.

How Do I Report?
There are several ways in which you can report a homophobic or transphobic incident or crime:
1 Call the police on 0116 2222222. In an emergency, dial 999.

2 Call the LGBT Centre on 0116 2547412, email us or contact Trade Sexual Health Project on 0116 2541747. We can report incidents on your behalf, without revealing your identity if you wish to remain anonymous.

3 Go to the Stamp It Out! Website for reporting options

4 If the incident took place in Leicestershire, complete Leicestershire's County Council's online reporting form.

Who Can I Talk To?
